09/05/2008 - Cincinnati, OH (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Jay Bruce hit a grand slam and Joey Votto added a two-run homer, as the Cincinnati Reds pounded the Chicago Cubs, 10-2, in the opener of a three-game set at Great American Ball Park.
Votto finished 2-for-3 with two walks, three RBI and two runs scored in the victory, the Reds' fifth in seven games. Jeff Keppinger and Ryan Hanigan each had two hits and drove in a run.
Bronson Arroyo (14-10) gave up one run on four hits in 6 1/3 innings to get the win.
Koyie Hill doubled and knocked in a run for the Cubs, who began a nine-game road trip by extending their losing streak to a season-high six games.
Ted Lilly (13-9) was saddled with the loss, tagged for five runs on four hits with three walks and one strikeout in a season-low two innings of work. The southpaw had tossed six or more frames in each of his previous nine trips to the bump, posting a 4-2 mark over that stretch. Jon Lieber pitched two innings of relief and surrendered the home run to Bruce.
Following a strong opening frame in which Arroyo struck out the side, the Reds grabbed a 2-0 lead in the home half on Votto's 18th home run of the season. Chris Dickerson got things started with a leadoff single, but was later forced out on a grounder by Brandon Phillips. Votto then hammered the first pitch he saw from Lilly over the wall in right.
Cincinnati tacked on three more runs in the second. Hanigan reached on an infield single to start the inning and Arroyo sacrificed the runner to second. After Lilly plunked Dickerson in the back, Keppinger doubled off the top of the left field wall to chase home Hanigan. Phillips was then intentionally walked to load the bases for Votto, who walked on four pitches to force in a run. An Edwin Encarnacion sac fly gave the Reds a 5-0 edge.
In the fourth, the Reds loaded the bases with one away on a single by Keppinger, a two-base hit from Phillips and an intentional walk to Votto. After Encarnacion flied out to right fielder Kosuke Fukudome in foul territory, Bruce delivered with an opposite-field smash to the seats in left for his first career grand slam and a 9-0 Reds advantage.
Jim Edmonds, who walked to begin the seventh, scored on Hill's RBI double to put the Cubs on the board. Cincinnati, though, responded in the bottom half on a run-scoring single by Hanigan.
A fielding miscue by Bruce on a base hit by Hill with two gone in the eighth allowed Mike Fontenot, who had reached on an infield single earlier in the frame, to score the Cubs' second run of the game.
Game Notes
Arroyo has won each of his last four starts...Votto has homered in three straight games. Eight of his 18 homers have come against the Cubs...The setback snapped Lilly's five-game road-winning streak...Bruce's homer was his 16th of the year...The Cubs have totaled just 14 runs during the skid...The start of the game was delayed 17 minutes because of rain.

Will Ohio State continue to run the table in College Football betting odds?
MySportsbook.com favors Buckeyes, Fighting Irish and Golden Bears in this weekend's big games.
NEW YORK, NY, Sept. 21 - My Sportsbook NCAA football fans: things are beginning to get really interesting on college football's national stage. Following last weekend's "Separation Saturday", which included five teams ranked in the top 15 dropping games, the BCS Championship picture is beginning to take shape - with Ohio State leading the charge. And, according to odds makers at MySportsbook.com, the number-one-ranked Buckeyes will continue their winning ways this weekend.
Revenge will be the name of the game in Columbus this Saturday, as Ohio State looks to even the score following last season's loss to Joe Paterno's Nittany Lions. Although Penn State are listed as 16.5 point underdogs, they are 11-10 all-time versus the Buckeyes. Paterno and the Lions, however, will have to shut down Heisman Trophy favorite Troy Smith who has thrown for 769 yards and seven touchdowns this season.
Speaking of revenge, Notre Dame will be out for some against Michigan State, following last year's 44 - 41 overtime loss to the Spartans in South Bend. The thirteenth-ranked Irish, listed as a 3-point favorite, will also be looking to avenge last Saturday's thrashing from the Michigan Wolverines. The Spartans, meanwhile, have won seven of the last nine match-ups against Notre Dame and are coming off an impressive 38-23 victory over Pittsburgh.
Out west, 22nd-ranked Arizona State will be battling for their first victory over 21st-ranked California since 2000. Although the Golden Bears are listed as 7.5-point favorites, the Sun Devils are 3-0, lead the nation in sacks with 18 and possess the Pac-10's leading passer in sophomore quarterback Rudy Carpenter.

Matt Kenseth And Kevin Harvick Favorites To Take NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship
(September 15)—The NASCAR season has hit the homestretch with the opening event on this year’s Chase for the Cup taking place this weekend at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With 10 races remaining to determine the Cup Series champion, leading online sportsbook MySportsbook.com today announced odds on all 10 Chase qualifying drivers capturing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.
One of the largest sportsbook sites on the Internet, MySportsbook.com currently lists the top two drivers in the point standings as the early favorites to win the Nextel Cup. Entering the Chase for the Cup with a slim five-point lead in the point standings, 2003 NASCAR champ Matt Kenseth has been made a slight favorite to win his second Cup at 7/2 betting odds. 2001 Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick has betting odds listed at 5/2 and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 6/1 to capture the Nextel Cup this year.
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father who won six NASCAR titles, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stands at 8/1 to breakthrough with his first Cup victory. Staying with the family theme, MySportsbook.com lists 2005 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch at 14/1 to succeed big brother Kurt’s 2004 NASCAR title. While Kasey Kahne was the final driver to qualify for the Chase with a third place finish last week, the oddsmakers give him a fighting chance at 10/1 mainly due to several mile-and-a-half tracks remaining on the schedule. Despite going winless on the NASCAR circuit this season, Jeff Burton enters the Chase at 5/1 to capture the Cup title. Meanwhile, rookie Denny Hamlin is 4/1 to win the championship, while veteran driver Mark Martin enters the Chase for the Cup as a 15/1 long shot to win his first NASCAR title in his 24th and final season.
MySportsbook.com will offer comprehensive Nascar betting lines on every race remaining on the Nextel Cup series including driver match-ups, props and odds to win each race. For a complete list of NASCAR odds, please visit www.MySportsbook.com.
